We are seeking a Data Modeler for a position working remotely from anywhere in Texas with our Austin, Texas client  supporting their SaaS integration project by designing, developing, and maintaining conceptual, logical, and physical data models that align with enterprise architecture standards. This role will focus on defining data relationships across cloud-based and on-premises systems to ensure data consistency, accuracy, and compliance with State of Texas enterprise data management policies. The Data Modeler will collaborate closely with architects, developers, and QA teams to support system integration, data migration, and reporting initiatives.

 

Responsibilities

•             Design, document, and maintain data models (conceptual, logical, and physical) that support the integration of SaaS applications with internal and external enterprise systems.

•             Collaborate with the Enterprise Architect to ensure data models align with overall architecture frameworks, standards, and governance requirements.

•             Analyze business and system requirements to define data entities, relationships, and flows across cloud and legacy environments.

•             Develop and maintain metadata repositories, data dictionaries, and data lineage documentation to ensure consistency and traceability.

•             Support data mapping and transformation efforts for integration, migration, and reporting.

•             Validate that data structures support performance, scalability, and data integrity objectives.

•             Partner with Quality Assurance to define and verify data validation rules and testing standards.

•             Work with security and compliance teams to ensure data models adhere to privacy, classification, and governance standards.

•             Review vendor and third-party data models to ensure alignment with enterprise standards and interoperability requirements.

•             Support go-live and post-implementation activities through data validation, reconciliation, and optimization analysis.


Required Skills and Experience

•             7 years of experience as a Data Modeler, Data Architect, or Database Designer in enterprise environments.

•             Proven experience developing conceptual, logical, and physical data models for SaaS or cloud-based applications.

•             Strong SQL skills and understanding of data integration, normalization, and modeling best practices.

•             Experience working with data modeling tools (e.g., ER/Studio, ERwin, PowerDesigner, or equivalent).

•             Understanding of data governance, metadata management, and data quality frameworks.

•             Ability to interpret business requirements and translate them into data design specifications.

•             Excellent communication and documentation skills for presenting data models and concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.

 

Preferred Qualifications

•             Experience with state or government data management environments.

•             Familiarity with Azure, AWS, or other cloud data platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift, or Azure SQL).

•             Knowledge of enterprise architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF) and data management standards (e.g., DAMA-DMBOK).

•             Experience modeling data for financial or ERP systems such as PeopleSoft or CAPPS.

•             Understanding of security and compliance requirements related to government data (e.g., data classification, encryption, retention).
