Sr. Network Engineer VMware & NSX

We are seeking an experienced Senior Network Engineer with advanced knowledge in VMware and NSX (VCP-NV certification required) and a strong background in network design, implementation, and administration. The role involves maintaining the infrastructure's stability, optimizing performance, and ensuring security in a hybrid in-office environment. You must be local to Sacramento, CA; able to work onsite 2 days a week via hybrid schedule (transitioning to 4 days onsite starting July).

Key Responsibilities:

1. Network Architecture & Design:
   • Design, implement, and maintain scalable network infrastructure to meet organizational needs.
   • Develop custom solutions by leveraging VMware and NSX platforms.
2. Network Administration:
   • Configure and manage LAN/WAN connectivity, VLANs, firewalls, routers, and switches.
   • Monitor network performance and troubleshoot issues to ensure seamless operation.
3. Security Management:
   • Proactively secure network systems and enforce compliance with company policy.
   • Apply security patches and updates to hardware/software systems as needed.
4. Project Leadership:
   • Lead network-related projects, ensuring deliverables are met on schedule and within budget.
   • Collaborate with cross-functional teams for smooth project integration.
5. Documentation & Reporting:
   • Create and maintain network diagrams, documentation, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
   • Provide regular reports on network performance and incidents.
6. Mentoring & Education:
   • Mentor junior engineers and provide guidance on networking best practices.
   • Stay current with industry trends and certifications; recommend upgrades or technologies as required.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• At least 7 years of experience in enterprise network engineering roles.
• Extensive hands-on experience with VMware NSX, including design, deployment, and lifecycle management.
• Strong understanding of core networking protocols and services (e.g., TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, DNS, DHCP, VPN).
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills (mandatory).
• Proven ability to navigate complex stakeholder environments and drive resolution of conflicting requirements (mandatory).
• Deep knowledge of network security principles and tools.

• Preferred Qualifications:

  • VMware Certified Professional - NSX (VCP-NV) or equivalent certification.
  • Experience with VMware vSphere and other virtualization platforms.
  • Familiarity with public cloud networking concepts, especially AWS.
  • Working knowledge of automation and scripting tools (e.g., Python, PowerShell, Ansible).
